David Cameron raising funds for US Republicans
David Cameron: welcoming Republican allies with open cheque books? Photograph: David Levene
Is David Cameron preparing to help out his Republican party allies from the comfort of No 10 Downing Street? That's the implication of a clue in an internal Republican party strategy document leaked to the media. The document – found in a hotel room after a Republican party meeting and passed to Politico – is a collection of PowerPoint slides showing fundraising events organised by the Republicans. Under "3rd quarter events" for September this year, it includes the entry: "9/17 Young Eagles London trip – Meeting with David Cameron – $80,000". Continue reading...

The Northerner: Terror from the skies
A starling adopts a menacing pose. Photograph: Jodie Randall/RSPB/PA
Residents in a Cheshire market town have been getting in a flap about an avian visitation that is plaguing its streets. In scenes inevitably described by residents as somewhat Hitchcockian, the streets of central Nantwich are suffering from an influx of starlings ‑ with harried shoppers resorting to using umbrellas to protect themselves. The Chronicle reports that environmental health chiefs have received up to 30 complaints about the starlings ‑ which are migrating from eastern Europe ‑ and the mess they leave. Hillary Clinton: secretly Welsh
Lost in translation: sign reads 'I am out of the office at the moment'
Excellent news for the fine people of Wales: the US secretary of state, Hillary Clinton reveals herself to be of Welsh descent. Yesterday the state department put out the following statement:On behalf of President Obama and the American people, I congratulate the people of Wales as they celebrate St David's Day.... As an American of Welsh descent, I have always had a special place in my heart for Wales – both the beauty of its land and the determination of its people.Secretary Clinton spent St David's Day in Argentina, or Yr Ariannin if you prefer. Which has a surprisingly rich Welsh heritage.
